BMW
Stands for Bayerische Motoren Werke, translated in English as Bavarian Motor Works. The white and blue chequered roundel in the logo represents the flag of Bavaria while the black exterior circle is derived from the logo of BMW’s predecessor – Rapp.

Mercedes-Benz
Mercedes was a brand of the Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft (DMG). Half of its name came from Daimler’s partner Emil Jellinek’s daughter, Mercédès Jellinek. The other came from Karl Benz, the man responsible for making the first car. When the two came together in 1926, Mercedes-Benz was born. The famous three pointed star comes from a postcard sent by Gottlieb Daimler to his wife which said that he was living in a three pointed star and that ‘one day this star will shine over our triumphant factories.’ The three points are meant to signify land, sea and air and were first seen on a car in 1910.

Jaguar - JAGUAR STARTED OUT AS A SIDECAR BUSINESS
Originally as the Swallow Sidecar Company, Jaguar specialized in making sidecars for motorcycles. Founders William Walmsley and William Lyons started the company with a £1000 loan taken out with help from their dads, and began experimenting with cars in 1927 by coachbuilding kits for the Austin 7.

Maserati
At the time of establishing, four of seven Maserati brothers became the founders, Bindo, Ernesto, Ettore, and Alfieri. Each of them had a deep passion for engineering and designing automobiles. The only one that didn’t seem interested was Mario who became a painter instead. It’s speculated that he helped to create the Trident, the Maserati logo.

Tesla
Elon Musk’s Tesla is named after the designer of the alternating current electricity system, Nikola Tesla. Infact, the first model by the brand, the Roadster, had a motor which was descended from Tesla’s original design. The ‘T’ seen on the logo signifies a cross section of an electric motor. The upright part represents a rotor pole while the curve line over the top symbolizes a stator.
